Opening this fall in the Red Brick District on the corner of 4th & Main, The Walrus offers a full menu of delicious food and craft brews along with a fresh, lively atmosphere in which to relax with friends, family and colleagues. Grab lunch, watch a game, or come out for an evening of dinner & drinks and enjoy some of the best local music in the region.
The South Fourth Street corner of Downtown has become its own mini-district in recent years with the success of multiple local bars and restaurants including 16-Bit, Dirty Frank’s, Little Palace, El Camino and Sidebar. You can add another venue to the mix this winter when The Walrus opens its doors at 143 East Main Street.
The Walrus will be the third venture for Krista Sparks, Brad Hobbs and Kevin Burns, who opened The Olde Towne Tavern in 2012, followed by Corner Stone Craft Beer & Wine in 2013.
“About two years ago we were shown this location for a possible new bar and restaurant concept,” says Burns. “The spot was previously an old nightclub, and with not much live music being offered Downtown, we decided to make a presence for the folks who live, work and play in the area.”
Burns says that the original space was too small (it most recently housed a poker room) so walls are being removed to combine two spaces to make 3,000 square feet, bring in more natural light with an open-air front, and to make room for a sidewalk patio outside.
In addition to live music from local and regional bands, The Walrus will offer lunch, dinner and late-night food (kitchen open until 1am) seven days a week. The menu is being described as a mix between classic bar food with a few twists. The bar will feature a rotating offering of 30 beers on draft with a focus on local brews.
If the concept sounds similar to The Olde Towne Tavern plus live music, then it’s due to the success that the owners have found in the popular Oak Street establishment.
“Our guests at The Tavern are unbelievable… I see the same great people every day as when we opened the doors two-and-a-half years ago,” says Burns. “OTE is truly a supportive, intelligent and passionate community, and we are so fortunate to be a part of it all.”
The Walrus is scheduled to open sometime this holiday season with a grand opening date to be announced in the near future.
