A Louisville, Kentucky brewery is coming to the Arena District.

Goodwood Brewing Co. is taking over the former Gordon Biersch space at 401 N. Front St. and expects to open its brewpub in February or March.

“Columbus is a cool city with a good craft beer scene,” CEO Ted Mitzlaff said. “We’d been looking in the area for some time. We see a lot of similarities to Louisville.”

The brewery considered spots in Dublin and Upper Arlington, but the 14,000-square-foot Gordon Biersch spot was an opportunity too good to pass up. That brewpub closed in early 2020, but its system and tanks are all still in place, which created a turnkey opportunity for Goodwood.

“We’re going to make some cosmetic improvements, but we don’t have to do a lot to the space,” Mitzlaff said.

Columbus will be the sixth location for Goodwood and the first in Ohio. It just completed a similar turnkey conversion of a former Ram Restaurant & Brewery space in Indianapolis, which opened over the summer.
